Looking for fun things to do in Bangkok with kids when they need a break from sightseeing? For a day built around play, our family favourites are HarborLand for indoor play, BEAT Active and D-SPORTS STADIUM for active children, and board-game cafés, MBK arcades, karaoke and cinema for older kids. Babies and toddlers have play cafés; teenagers can add karting, VR, shopping or a hair-and-nails treat.
Bangkok’s temples and markets can be wonderful. But children sometimes reach the point where they want to climb, race, sing or play rather than see another attraction. Building those days into a holiday gives everyone something to look forward to.
This guide combines places our family enjoys with additional researched options. Our children love HarborLand, BEAT Active and D Sports. Board-game cafés can occupy us for more than three hours, and I have enjoyed MBK’s arcades since I was a teenager.
Ages below are our planning suggestions unless identified as venue rules. Prices are published examples checked for this update, in Thai baht. Online offers, resident eligibility, dates and extras can change the total.
Quick guide: choose by age, interest and budget
| Suggested ages | Activity and area | Price information | Suggested time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Babies–6 | Play cafés: Little Pea, Thonglor | Family Play from ฿200 for the first hour; café purchases extra | 1–2 hours |
| 3–12 | HarborLand, several malls | Branch, height and package dependent; Happy Care costs extra | 2–3 hours |
| 3–10 | Playmondo, CentralWorld | Branch menu; non-slip socks sold for ฿60 if needed | 1–3 hours |
| 2+ | SEA LIFE, Siam Paragon | International child ticket aged 2–11 from ฿799 online; under 2 free | 1.5–2 hours |
| 4–9 | Children’s Discovery Museum, Chatuchak | Free general admission | 2–3 hours |
| School age–teens | BEAT Active, BITEC Bang Na | Reseller adult sports pass from ฿809; climbing combo from ฿1,097 | 3–4 hours |
| School age–teens | D-SPORTS STADIUM, Thonglor | Lower-cost choice in our experience; obtain current timed-pass price | 1.5–3 hours |
| 7–13, minimum 125 cm | EasyKart junior kart, RCA | ฿499 for one race | Allow about 1 hour including check-in and waiting |
| 10+ | Xscape, Sukhumvit 24 | ฿3,800 for four players; 60-minute game | About 90 minutes total |
| Teens | Total VR, Gateway Ekamai | ฿300/30 min weekday; ฿350 weekend, per station | 30–60 minutes |
| Tweens–teens | Hair wash and blow-dry, Niche Salon, Ploenchit | From ฿300; length/thickness affects price | Allow around 1 hour |
| Teens | Regular-polish manicure, Niche Salon | ฿500 published menu | Allow around 1 hour |
Time allowances are our planning estimates, except venue-stated game/session lengths. A café visit, museum or sporting activity may suit other ages too.
Babies and toddlers: play cafés and gentle outings
Baby cafés: coffee for parents, play for little ones
I have enjoyed baby cafés with my nephews. Soft play, slides and ball pits keep them interested, while the adults can have coffee and something to eat. It makes a pleasant outing for both generations.
For a baby, look for floor-level sensory or crawling play. For a toddler, choose suitable slides, climbing and room to move. An exciting playground for a five-year-old can be overwhelming for a child who has just started walking.
Little Pea Kids Commons at theCOMMONS Thonglor offers sensory and imaginative activities alongside its play spaces. Its PEA Play menu lists Family Play without a teacher at ฿200 for the first hour and ฿100 for each additional hour. Teacher-led Drop In Fun starts at ฿300 for the first hour; children under three require a guardian. Check the calendar before visiting. See Little Pea’s programme.
Wonder Woods on Pattanakarn 51 combines a café with indoor and outdoor play. It is an option when you want the café experience to be part of the outing rather than a quick drink outside a playground. See the venue listing and location.
Practical choice: Little Pea fits a Thonglor-based day; Wonder Woods makes more sense if you are staying toward Pattanakarn or planning a dedicated visit. Neither should be assumed to provide drop-off childcare.
SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World

Our children like the aquarium at Siam Paragon. Watching marine animals offers a different pace from climbing and sports, and it can give siblings of different ages something to enjoy together.
- Where: Basement levels of Siam Paragon; BTS Siam.
- Ticket categories: Children aged 2–11; under-twos enter free.
- Published international price: Child single admission from ฿799 online, versus ฿1,199 on site.
- Hours: 10:00–20:00, last entry 19:00.
- Allow: Around 1.5–2 hours, longer if your family likes to linger.
The lowest Thai-resident offers require proof of residence. Choose the correct ticket category rather than budgeting from a resident promotion. Optional boat, VR and 4D experiences depend on the package.
For stroller or mobility requirements, use the operator’s accessibility guide. The aquarium contains dark areas and can be busy; it is not automatically a quiet sensory environment. Official tickets.
Ages 4–6: playgrounds, slides and hands-on discovery
HarborLand: a family favourite, with an optional nanny service

HarborLand is one of our kids’ favourites. It works well when they want a proper play session rather than a short diversion between sightseeing stops.
For central stays, compare EmQuartier, Gateway Ekamai, ICONSIAM and One Bangkok. Mega Bangna is another option if you are staying in the southeast or already visiting that mall. The operator lists different play zones at different branches, so extra activities are not interchangeable.
HarborLand lists Happy Care as a separate paid care service. If you want someone to play with your child while you shop, ask your chosen branch whether that arrangement is available for your child. It is a separate arrangement from ordinary admission. The operator lists Happy Care and Happy Care Combo packages; a single current hourly rate could not be verified.
Book the care arrangement with your branch before planning independent shopping time. Agree the child’s eligibility, language needs, duration, total cost, collection arrangements and whether you must remain in the mall. Do not treat ordinary floor staff as a booked nanny.

HarborLand, Playmondo or MELAND: which should you choose?
| Choose | When it makes sense |
|---|---|
| HarborLand | You want our family’s tried-and-enjoyed playground choice, several branch options, or a separately arranged Happy Care service |
| Playmondo CentralWorld | You want an indoor playground during a central shopping day, with clearly published participation rules |
| MELAND at Siam Paragon | Your day is centred on Paragon and you want to compare another indoor-play option before choosing |
Avoid buying several playground visits simply because they have different names. Start with one that suits your children and location.
Playmondo’s useful rules: children must be at least 65 cm tall and can play up to age 13. Under-sevens need an accompanying parent or adult guardian. It does not offer a nanny service. You can bring your own non-slip socks; the venue sells them for ฿60.
CentralWorld and Central Eastville are the larger Playmondo venues; Central Ladprao and Central Rama 2 operate the smaller CUBS by Playmondo format. Normal visits are walk-in, with registration required; registration is not a reserved play slot. Official FAQ · Price boards
Children’s Discovery Museum, Chatuchak

Our children liked this museum when they were younger, especially the combination of indoor and outdoor areas. It is a good fit for children who want to explore and try things.
- Where: Kamphaeng Phet 4 Road, beside Queen Sirikit Park.
- Transport: MRT Kamphaeng Phet, with a walk to the museum.
- General admission: Free.
- Published hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00–16:00; closed Monday.
- Allow: Around 2–3 hours.
Take a spare outfit for any operating water or messy-play activities. Outdoor areas make this a mixed-weather outing rather than a fully indoor rainy-day recommendation. Museum website
Pottery and painting: something to take home
For children who prefer making things, Clay Circle, Charm-Learn Studio and Aromdee Art Studio publish children’s pottery activities. GIGIPAYNE offers ceramic painting.
These are calmer alternatives to a sports venue, although class size and atmosphere vary. Establish the collection date before paying: fired pottery may not be ready before your flight.

Ages 7–9 and beyond: indoor sports and active fun
BEAT Active: basketball, archery, football and ski simulators

Our kids LOVE BEAT Active. It is the kind of place to choose when you want a substantial active outing.
Its advertised sports mix includes basketball, football/soccer, archery, baseball, tennis, golf, rowing challenges and ski simulators, alongside skating, trampolines and interactive games. These include simulator and game formats; “skiing” does not mean a snow slope.
The climbing gym, Mini BEAT and BEAT Active Pro are separately identified areas. A sports-simulator pass should not be assumed to include them.
- Where: BITEC BURI, Bang Na.
- Transport: BTS Bang Na, Exit 1; follow BITEC/venue directions.
- Published schedule: Tuesday–Friday 10:00–19:00; weekends/public holidays 10:00–20:00; closed Monday. Confirm holiday arrangements before travelling.
- Budget example: Ticket2Attraction lists adult sports day passes from ฿809 and adult climbing combos from ฿1,097. These are reseller offers, not guaranteed walk-in prices.
- Extra: BEAT grip socks are listed at ฿70; required for trampoline use.
- Allow: Around 3–4 hours.
The official ticket rules position All Area for children over 120 cm; shorter children have fewer eligible activities. Under-eights must have a paying adult with them. Some reseller packages impose a minimum age of six, so select a ticket matching your child rather than assuming every package follows the same rules.

D-SPORTS STADIUM: a less expensive favourite in Thonglor

Our children LOVE D Sports too. For our family, it is the lower-cost alternative when we want sports and games without the bigger BEAT Active spend.
The Thonglor venue’s official site lists batting machines, bouldering, badminton, tennis, amusement machines and a children’s play space. Its booking listing also describes basketball, table tennis and pool.
- Where: Fifth floor, DONKI Mall Thonglor, in the Thonglor–Ekkamai area.
- Transport: A road transfer from BTS Thong Lo or Ekkamai; the mall is not directly attached to either station.
- Allow: Around 1.5–3 hours, depending on the pass.
- Pricing: Timed tickets; obtain the current branch menu. Old opening-campaign prices remain online and are not reliable current rates.
Wear sports clothes and suitable shoes. When buying a reseller voucher, read its advance-booking and appointment conditions. Official venue · Location · Ticket page
BEAT Active versus D Sports: our family’s view
| Question | BEAT Active | D Sports, Thonglor |
|---|---|---|
| Our impression | Bigger, higher-quality experience and more expensive | A more affordable sports outing our children also love |
| Choose it for | A substantial day of different simulators and challenges | A shorter session or a Thonglor-based day |
| Main appeal | Broad simulator mix, with optional climbing package | Batting and racket-sport activities mixed with games |
| Ticket detail to check | Which zones the chosen pass actually includes | Duration, extras and current branch price |
| Getting there | BITEC area near BTS Bang Na | Road connection from Thong Lo/Ekkamai |
The size, quality and value comparison is our personal experience, not an independent safety rating.
BOUNCE: jumping and trampoline games

BOUNCE is the trampoline option for children who want to jump and burn energy. It offers a different kind of active outing from the sports simulators at BEAT Active. Our family photo shows a previous visit, rather than a guarantee that the current layout is identical.
BOUNCE Thailand’s official account lists its EmQuartier venue on the fourth floor, convenient for BTS Phrom Phong. Advertised areas include trampoline basketball, a landing airbag and an adventure challenge course; access depends on the session and each participant’s eligibility.
Check the current age and height rules, supervision requirements, grip socks and session price before booking. Allow time to listen to the staff briefing and choose activities that suit your child’s ability. BOUNCE Thailand’s official account
Rock Domain: indoor climbing in Bang Na

The climbing-wall photo in this guide was taken at Rock Domain in Bang Na. If your children would rather climb than jump, it is another option for a day centred on being active.
Rock Domain Climbing Gym is at 1780 Debaratna Road, Bang Na, on the Bang Na–Trat road. The operator lists roped climbing walls, a bouldering area, instruction and group programmes. This is a dedicated climbing gym, so plan around an appropriate introductory session rather than assuming every wall is available to a first-time visitor.
Ask about children’s eligibility, beginner instruction, harness and shoe hire, and which activities need an instructor or trained adult. Keep the transport plan simple: the gym is a road destination, rather than a mall attached to a BTS station. Rock Domain facilities and location
Bowling and science outings
Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl is another choice for a shared activity. For a first bowling session, ask the branch about bumpers and lighter balls. Footwear and equipment charges affect the total.
For science-minded children, the National Science Museum complex at Khlong Five, Pathum Thani has science, natural history and technology museums. This is outside central Bangkok: choose it as the main outing, not an extra stop between city malls. NSM tickets and programmes
Tweens: karting, laser tag, puzzles and board games
EasyKart Bangkok: eligibility and prices
At EasyKart RCA Plaza, the published kart categories are:
| Kart | Venue’s age requirement | Height | Published price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junior | 7–13 | 125 cm+ | ฿499 for one race |
| Regular | 12+ | 135 cm+ | ฿699 for one race |
| Fast | 15+ | 150 cm+ | ฿1,499 for two races |
Both age and height requirements apply. Closed-toe shoes are compulsory; helmets are provided. RCA is a road-transfer destination rather than a mall directly connected to rail.
Example: Two eligible juniors having one race each costs ฿998 before transport or additional purchases. Allow time for check-in, briefing and waiting, not just the race. Official rates and booking
Laser tag at Playsquare
Playsquare at CentralWorld and Central Eastville offers laser-tag games. Its operator specifies a minimum height of 110 cm, 15-minute games and comfortable closed-toe footwear.
It is a good option for children who like team games, but consider their tolerance for darkness. A short game can fit into a mall visit without becoming the whole day. Operator’s laser-tag FAQ
Xscape at the Ariston Hotel on Sukhumvit 24, near BTS Phrom Phong, offers escape-room games in English. Most rooms are recommended for ages 10+.
Games last 60 minutes; the operator advises about 90 minutes overall, including arrival and briefing. Published totals are ฿2,400 for two players and ฿3,800 for four: ฿950 each when four play.
Choose a theme everyone is comfortable with. Some games have low passages or crawling, so check the room details for access needs. Rooms, eligibility and booking
Board-game cafés: give yourselves an afternoon
Our children enjoy board-game cafés, and we can spend three hours or more there. The variety matters: board games can be expensive to buy in Thailand, so this is a way to try several without purchasing them.
Dice Cup around Suan Luang Square is a name to consider for a central outing. More Than a Game Café on Rama III is another option with a published game selection and address.
Choose a venue with English game editions and help explaining the rules if you need it. Ask for a short introductory game before committing to something complicated. Hourly versus day pricing matters when you stay as long as we do. More Than a Game
Teenagers: VR, karaoke, arcades and shopping
Total VR: pay by station, not automatically by person
Total VR is on the third floor of Gateway Ekamai, beside BTS Ekkamai. Its English-speaking staff help beginners, and advertised games include rhythm and simulator experiences as well as action titles.
| Session per station | Weekdays, excluding holidays | Weekends/public holidays |
|---|---|---|
| 30 minutes | ฿300 | ฿350 |
| 60 minutes | ฿500 | ฿600 |
| 120 minutes | ฿900 | ฿1,100 |
The operator allows player switching for up to three people per station; they take turns. Simultaneous multiplayer needs additional stations. Two weekday one-hour stations therefore cost ฿1,000.
The venue cites an HTC Vive recommended age of 13+. Choose games by content as well as age, and stop if anyone feels uncomfortable. Official prices, games and booking
Karaoke: let them choose the playlist
My daughter loves karaoke. A private room gives everyone a turn, without having to sing in front of strangers.
Karaoke Manekineko at MBK and Blu-O are practical names for a mall-based outing. Look at English song availability and whether the advertised rate is per room or per person. Drinks, minimum duration and weekend pricing can change the comparison.
For younger teens, choose a daytime session and combine it with lunch or browsing. MBK entertainment directory · Blu-O branches
MBK arcades: a favourite across generations
I loved MBK’s arcades as a teenager and still go when childhood friends visit. It is an outing the adults can enjoy too.
Look for EX10, and browse before buying credits. A set spending allowance makes it easier to choose between rhythm games, racing and other machines.
Getting there: BTS National Stadium. Combine MBK with Siam Square if everyone still has energy, rather than travelling to another part of the city.
Shopping by interest
| Your teenager likes… | Start with… | Rail access |
|---|---|---|
| Browsing games, electronics and varied stalls | MBK | BTS National Stadium |
| Fashion and browsing between shops | Siam Square and Siam Center | BTS Siam |
| A large central mall with cinema and food | CentralWorld | BTS Chit Lom or Siam, then walk |
| A themed mall and food break | Terminal 21 Asok | BTS Asok / MRT Sukhumvit |
Shopping is something our family loves. Let teenagers shortlist shops and choose part of the day themselves; one good area is usually enough.
Hair, nails and facials for tweens and teens
My teenage daughter loves having her hair done, and nails are another favourite. A wash-and-dry can be a holiday treat that costs less than a comparable service at home, depending on your usual salon.
These are published menu examples, not verified under-18 admission policies:
| Salon/service | Published price | What the price means |
|---|---|---|
| Niche Salon, Ploenchit: shampoo, conditioner and blow-dry | From ฿300 | Length and thickness affect the total |
| Niche: regular-polish manicure | ฿500 | Published manicure-and-colour menu |
| Niche: regular-polish pedicure | ฿600 | Hand-and-foot set listed at ฿1,000 |
Example: Niche’s starting wash-and-dry plus regular-polish manicure totals ฿800, before any adjustment for hair length or extra services.
Niche is on Wireless Road in the Ploenchit area. Hair menu · Nail menu. These salon suggestions come from published service menus; our family experience above relates to hair and nail outings generally.
Ask about under-18 appointments, parental consent, hair-length supplements and polish removal before booking. Take Care also lists hair, nails and facial services. For a tween or teen facial, confirm that the provider accepts their age and ask exactly what is involved. Do not assume an adult treatment menu is suitable for children.
A cinema trip can be a Bangkok experience in itself
A cinema visit is always a nice day out for our family. In our experience, cinemas are clean and a regular screening can be an affordable outing.
Look at Paragon Cineplex or Quartier CineArt for a central mall visit. Both list Kids Cinema options, although the available films and sessions vary.
For older children and teens, Embassy Diplomat Screens at Central Embassy is a named option to compare with a regular screening. Its bed-style and reclining formats make the seating part of the outing. Prices depend on the film, seat and session, so compare the full family total on the live booking screen.
For younger children, compare a regular screening with a Kids Cinema session at Paragon or Quartier. Confirm what play facilities and access are included in that particular session. Major Cineplex showtimes.
Before paying, check:
- Original-language soundtrack or Thai dubbing.
- Subtitle language and film classification.
- Seat type and the full family price.
- Any age rules for the particular cinema format.
Bring a light layer for the air-conditioning, and leave time for food afterwards.
Water play, creative treats and lower-cost days
For a water-based outing, Harbor Island at One Bangkok advertises an indoor water playground. Check its admission categories, session rules and swimwear requirements when planning.
For children who like edible creativity, The Chocolate Factory advertises chocolate-drawing workshops at its restaurant branches. Ask your chosen branch about availability, allergens and age suitability.
You can also look for cake-decorating or baking sessions that match your child’s age and the dates of your stay. Book only once you have confirmed the actual format and language of instruction.
An enjoyable day does not always need a ticket. Try a playground morning, a picnic or a browse around a favourite shopping area with a small spending allowance. Benchasiri Park and the Chatuchak–Queen Sirikit park area are options to explore. Plan outdoor time around the weather and current air quality. If you want a beach day outside the city, our Bang Saen day trip guide for families offers a different pace from Bangkok’s indoor activities.
How to plan a day everyone enjoys
Choose one main activity
Treat the second stop as optional. Children may want longer at a playground or board-game café than the itinerary allows.
These are suggested combinations, not timed schedules:
| Area | Main activity | Optional addition |
|---|---|---|
| Siam and MBK | Aquarium or arcades | Lunch, shopping or a film |
| Thonglor | D-SPORTS STADIUM | A meal or browsing at DONKI Mall |
| Bang Na | BEAT Active | Lunch and a relaxed afternoon |
| Ekkamai | VR for eligible older children | Food and browsing at Gateway Ekamai |
| Chatuchak | Children’s Discovery Museum | A nearby park break |
Plan for different ages
For a toddler and a teenager, alternate who chooses. An aquarium, bowling session or cinema trip may offer common ground; a baby café and a VR session probably will not.
If adults split up with the children, choose activities in the same area and arrange a clear meeting point.
Budget for the whole family
Compare adult admission, compulsory socks, equipment, lockers, session extensions and food alongside the headline child ticket.
When choosing things to do in Bangkok with kids, group stops in one area. For central mall outings, consider the BTS or MRT where the route suits your family. For journeys with several children, a stroller or activities farther apart, a private vehicle may make planning easier. Our guide to choosing a sedan, SUV or minivan explains how to plan around passengers, luggage and equipment.
For arrival planning, read our Bangkok airport guide for families.
If you would like help arranging transport, request a family transport quote from SPNJ Travel with your children’s ages, pickup location and proposed stops. Include any child-seat request so the details can be checked before your booking is confirmed.
Quieter choices and access needs
For a child who dislikes noise or flashing lights, a small creative session or board-game café may work better than an arcade or sports hall. Ask about busy periods and group sizes. Cinemas and aquariums can be dark, and the aquarium is not necessarily quiet. Check step-free access, toilets and stroller storage directly with each venue; an accessible mall does not guarantee every activity is accessible.
Questions parents ask
What can children do in Bangkok when they are bored of sightseeing?
Start with their interests: soft play for younger children, sports and karting for active children, or arcades, karaoke, shopping and creative workshops for older ones. A cinema trip can be a welcome shared break.
What works well for toddlers?
A play café with an appropriate toddler area is a useful starting point. Check the equipment, supervision rules and facilities. Some toddlers may also enjoy a short aquarium visit.
What can teenagers do in Bangkok?
Start with BEAT Active for sports simulators, EasyKart RCA for eligible racers, Total VR at Gateway Ekamai, or MBK for arcades and karaoke. A board-game café or a wash-and-blow-dry may suit a quieter day. Let them shortlist options before you book.
What can families do when it rains?
Indoor playgrounds, board-game cafés, cinemas, karaoke, the aquarium and suitable indoor sports are options. Pick somewhere convenient to reach rather than filling a wet day with journeys across the city.
Do activities need to be booked?
Check ahead for karting, VR, escape rooms, workshops, salon appointments and weekend sessions. Some venues accept walk-ins, but that does not guarantee a place for your whole family.
Is one activity enough for a day?
It can be. Our family can spend more than three hours at a board-game café alone. Leave space for lunch, travel and the possibility that everyone is happy exactly where they are.
This guide combines our family’s experiences with additional activities to explore. Check each venue’s current programme, prices and participation rules before booking.
